Roadtrip, Alberta and British Columbia, 2008

July 28, 2008
By

Colin and I travel a lot, but usually in fits and starts. The last long, proper holiday we took was to Egypt.

This time around Colin took me, along with my parents, on a tour of western Alberta and British Columbia, his homeland.

Below is a slideshow of the images of the first half of the trip. Here’s an intinerary for those who are interested.

  • Fly into Calgary
  • Pick up rental car and overnight in Canmore (just south of Banff, Alberta)
  • Couple days around Banff, including visits to the Banff Springs Hotel, the Sulphur Moutain tramway and the Banff Hotsprings (ooh lah lah!)
  • Icefields Parkway to Jasper (one day of exploring, including Ice Explorer onto the Athabasca Glacier and many scenic stops along the way.
  • Two nights in Jasper at the Whistlers Inn (across from the train station…we got the TURRET!). Explored the Mt Edith Cavell and Angel Glacier, took a boat trip on Lake Maligne, and renting a row boat for an early morning row on a hidden lake, off the beaten path.
  • Departed Jasper, on a two-day rail trip (Totem Deluxe Class!) on the Skeena, in the direction of Prince Rupert. We overnighted in Prince George, where we visited with Colin’s Uncle Lloyd and Aunt Jackie.
  • Took the British Columbia Ferry from Prince Ruper to Port Hardy, at the nothern tip of Vancouver Island… more on this in part two.
  • Enjoy!
